These large oil paintings combine objects that are highly personal with cardboard boxes. I found the background upholstery fabric at a warehouse in St.Louis and my mother used it to create window coverings for a house I was moving into in Memphis. I held on to the remnant. The bold black and white line pattern and the undulating surface contours created by the soft fabric draped over a surface never cease to interest me as a painter. I like the way the soft fabric plays against the geometry of the boxes. The other simple but personal objects in each of the paintings are markers of particular places and moments.
